Update on the Trilateral Agreement –Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda
October, 2013

The second Trilateral Meeting of Experts to discuss the strategies of marketing the Republics of Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda as a single tourism destination took place on 17th, October, 2013 in Nairobi, Kenya. The meeting was a follow up of the first Technical Experts meeting held on 20th September, 2013 in Kigali, Rwanda and was aimed at fine-tuning the marketing strategy.

The trilateral meeting recommended the following:

a.       Establishment of Rotational Tourism Expos.

b.      Joint promotion events calendar.

c.       Establishment of a Joint Promotion Committee.

The Kenyan representation was established as follows;

                                                               i.      Jacinta Nzioka, Kenya Tourist Board.

                                                             ii.      Kipkorir Lagat, Director of Tourism, Ministry of East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism, Kenya.

                                                            iii.      Mike Macharia, Chief Executive Officer, Kenya Association of Hotelkeepers and Caterers (KAHC)

                                                           iv.      Waturi Matu, Director, East Africa Tourism Platform, to attend as an observer.

d.      Design of the Logo for the three Partner States as a single tourist destination.

e.      Launch of a single Tourist Visa strategy.

a.       Announcement of the East Africa Tourist Visa for the three Partner states would be done at the World Travel Market, November,2013.

b.      Joint press release and hold a joint press conference.

c.       Launch of use of National Identity Cards as Travel Document.

f.        Common Pavilion at I.T.B in March 2014.

g.       Tourism facilities inventory.

a.       Partner States agreed to submit an inventory of tourism facilities and products by 15th November, 2013 for compilation.

h.      Tourism Portal.

a.       Rwanda to outsource the services of developing a tourism portal with basic content by end of December, 2013.
